RE: Proposed LIPA Wind Park

The Long Island Power Authority is proposing to build a “Wind Park”, consisting of 40 wind turbines and a substation 3.6 miles due south of Gilgo Beach.  The proposed route for the trenching of the cable, to a depth of 6 feet, is across Ocean Parkway at West Gilgo, north through the “Heading” and the Amityville Cut, northwest to Clocks Blvd. and north to a substation on Old Sunrise Hwy.  The Army Corps of Engineers issued a public notice on June 9, 2005 and will be accepting comments until July 22, 2005.  While no public hearings have been scheduled as yet, three “open houses” were held in June before the board became aware of the notice.  We have since requested that UCYC be included in all future notices.  A complete copy of the public notice is available on our website, www.unqua.com, under marine information.

The impact for UCYC is obvious.  Be assured that the Board of Governors will be monitoring this situation closely and will keep the membership informed.   Any comments or concerns are welcome and can be addressed to comments@unqua.com, or to Tony McGinley, marine information care of UCYC.  Additional information regarding this proposed project can also be found on www.fplenergy.com/projects/contents/long_island_wind.shtml and subsequent links.

Tony McGinley,
