I hope you all enjoyed this past weekend. This years New Member Dinner
Dance and Sunday's Opening Ceremonies were great. Once again I'd like to
thank Irma Fleming for her donation of ceremonial cannons which we used
during the ceremony. Past Commodore Fleming's son, Thomas, Jr., aided in
the ceremonies by firing the cannons. Thanks also go to Klaus and
Theresa Hein for their good work in seeing that everything went off as
planned for this "special event". Lastly, special thanks go to Bridget
Phillips (who sang) and Robert Brooks (on trumpet)
who provided us with a
fine rendition of our National Anthem.
The Boat Parade went well with a solid mix of new and old, big and small
vessels.
We could not have asked for better weather. The Beach Station was
unusually crowded and more than a few were seen swimming at the wading
beach. The Heading looks great thanks to Kriss Gulbrandsen and his
committee.
On the Mainland the pool had plenty of business too with several braving
the waters. In addition, at least one person who had not anticipated
taking a swim took to the canal next to the Club. Cameras came from
every direction with that development. The water wasn't bad.
All in all, we could not have asked for a better "official" beginning.
