Commodore's Message
Our Club is open for the Season!
My tenure on the Board stretches back to the days of Commodore Chester. Of
all the years, no two have been alike. As off-seasons go, this one was as
uneventful as they've been. In past years it usually happened that
challenging issues presented themselves. If it's true that timing is
everything, my timing has been good. Our facilities are in good shape, our
membership roll is at full capacity and the ladies and gentlemen of our Board
continue to handle our various committees with ease and without aggravation.
Of course, many of the Committee tasks to be performed require much time and
effort. The with ease and without aggravation part above may
be a bit off. Ask John Ferrari, who took care of our December water main
break. Ask John Rankin and Peter Gilfedder, they were busy seeing to an
upgrade of the lighting of our parking areas and the installation of a
drainage system for our main lawn. Tom Whalen handled the House Committee
and arranged for an upgrade of our dining room china. Ron Papritz handled
publicity and installed new software for the data from our Club census. Ed
Spychalsky prepared our budget and Jim Graham continues to provide his
expertise to our day-to-day treasury issues. Many others were busy as well.
I was correct to report that things are in order down at the Club, but
uneventful it has not been. Like every year, much preparation is required to
run the Club year round and ready it for the season. These things get done
on the Club's schedule, which frequently is at odds with the respective
schedules of our Board members. "It's good to be Commodore" because of their
efforts. Once again, many thanks to our Board and all of you who help to get
things done.
In this newsletter, you will see various mentions concerning our Committees
and ways in which you can contribute and assist the Club. For example, the
Entertainment Committee could use assistance and the Building and Grounds,
Beach Station and Regatta Committees will have one or more work parties this
year. Anyone who is able to assist is welcome.
I look forward to seeing you in the near future and, on behalf of our Board,
I hope you enjoyed our opening dinner and ceremonies.
Respectfully yours,
Glenn T. Nugent
